A “high ambition for pupils” who are “happy and safe” as well as hard working are the headlines from Town House’s latest Ofsted report, conducted at the start of June.
The ungraded inspection from the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills concluded “There is a real sense of community in the school” with strong relationships between teachers and learners leading our pupils to “demonstrate an excellent understanding of equality and equity”.
Town House School has high ambition for pupils. Pupils rise to this as demonstrated by their secure curriculum knowledge. They work hard in lessons, rising to meet the high expectations of staff. As a result, pupils achieve well. – Ofsted 2025

Our high standards for behaviour received special praise, with recognition for how pupils are attentive in lessons and focused on their learning in a “calm and orderly” environment.
Our curriculum was described as “well considered” with reading at the heart of it; “Teachers implement this consistently across the school. They help pupils to read with increasing confidence, expression and comprehension as they progress through the school.” With our writing curriculum praised for how it helps “to develop the knowledge they need to become fluent and confident writers.”
The school sets high expectations for pupils’ behaviour. As a result, pupils are attentive in lessons and focus on their learning. Behaviour around the school is calm and orderly. Pupils play well together at social times. Pupils are polite and well-mannered to each other and to visitors. – Ofsted 2025
There was also recognition for the pride in which our students carry out a “wide range of roles and responsibilities” and our extensive range of clubs, visits and residential trips “The school places a strong emphasis on pupils’ personal development. Pupils understand the importance of mental health, physical activity, healthy eating and how these impact their long-term health. The school prepares all pupils well for life in modern Britain and develops their understanding of fundamental British values, culture and diversity.”

Commenting on the report, Headteacher Mrs Smith says it is a just reward for the hard work and dedication of learners and staff:
“I am delighted Ofsted have recognised the work undertaken to maintain the standards set in our last graded inspection 5 years ago which judged us as a good school. We have worked tirelessly over the last year in particular to drive improvements in our literacy and reading and to see those areas highlighted is especially pleasing. As a school Town House is always focused on improving and moving forward, and I am sure that will continue as we seek to provide the best education possible for our learners and the community we serve.
We are deeply grateful for the support of parents and carers and hope everyone in our Town House family can take great pride in the contributions they make to school life.”
