Town House’s Girls football team have been celebrating an incredible double success after winning the Aston Villa Foundation “Everybody’s Game” competition.
It follows the success of topping their division in the Sutton Coldfield Schools football competition, after a superb unbeaten run.
On a hot sunny morning at Aston Villa’s Brookvale training facility, a team of 8 girls played 6 matches, winning 5 of them without conceding a single goal. The only defeat came to table toppers Kings Norton, who Town were able to beat 2-0 in a high quality final.
Mr Burrows, who leads Town’s football teams, says it was an incredible achievement:
“They all played superbly in difficult conditions. Most teams were able to get a break in-between matches, but our girls played all 6 fixtures back to back so to continue getting positive results was hugely impressive. The character they all showed to recover from the defeat to Kings Norton and then beat the same team in the final was the most pleasing part, they were genuinely a credit to the school and deserved their moment to lift the trophy and celebrate what has been a very successful season.”

After a season in which the boys team also reached a semi final, attention has already turned to preparing teams for next year, with an unprecedented number of applications for football club.
“We received so many responses we have split training for boys and girls over two nights, and expanded the amount of players we can accommodate thanks to support from Plantsbrook GCSE students. Huge thanks goes to Miss Cox and Mrs Evans in the school office for all their organising, to Mrs Smith and Mrs Burrows for the support they’ve given to football and to Miss Collins for providing support during our tournament at Aston Villa. It is wonderful to see so many people wanting to support the football club and so many children wanting to be involved.”
