Town House to celebrate 200th anniversary

Town House School is to celebrate 200 years of existence with a year full of special events with the hope of raising funds for extracurricular activities.

A summer pageant, family picnic, a celebration concert and an open event at the former site of the school within Sutton’s Baptist Church are all being planned, with the hope of students being able to create a lasting historical record of Sutton Coldfield in the process.

Town will also be supporting the Birmingham Hospice “Bulls in the City” art trail with our self designed bull set to feature as part of the legacy of the anniversary celebrations.

Headteacher Mrs Smith says it’s an opportunity to recognise the impact the school has had on Sutton Coldfield over two centuries:

“We are immensely proud of our school history and so we want to make this a truly memorable year. There will be so many families who have a connection to Town, so many memories made over the years. If we can create something that will honour the many Town alumni, and provide for our current students it will be fantastic.”

An art competition has already been launched in school to design a logo for the 200 celebrations, and Mrs Smith says the school are keen to hear from as many former pupils as possible:

“Part of this project is about bringing people together, we’d love to be able to host former students, hear their stories, and create a literacy project for our current pupils that will bring together all the history of our school. Perhaps there are people out there with artefacts and memorabilia in their lofts, attics and garages of their time at Town they could lend to us to document and showcase.”
